Nitrogen management for improved mango productivity and quality

June 15, 2018 | 5 Min read
A future of improved nitrogen applications that better pin-point the right source, timing and rate of nitrogen fertiliser to increase yield and optimise fruit quality.

Led by the Northern Territory Government Department of Primary Industry and Resources (NT DPIR), in partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the ‘Optimising nutrient management for improved productivity and fruit quality in mangoes’ project is one of ten national research projects collaborating under the umbrella of the ‘More Profit from Nitrogen Program (MPfN Program)’ across the horticulture, cotton, dairy and sugar industries.

The program aims to seek improved nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) by better understanding supply of nitrogen through mineralisation in the soil, irrigation interactions with nitrogen, and the value and cost effectiveness of enhanced efficiency fertilisers.
